Becoming Self-Actualized Through Astrology

Updated: Apr 30

Self-actualization is having the complete realization of one’s full potential and the willingness to achieve it.  Many people go through life without ever becoming aware of their full potential and how they could use their gifts to serve others in meaningful ways.  Astrology offers us a tool via our natal charts to understand the qualities we are here to develop to feel more empowered and self-actualized.

When we feel that we are living in alignment with our true purpose, we have energy, we have enthusiasm, and we experience fewer physical symptoms because our mental health is sound.  When we know we are utilizing the skills we came here to develop, and that we are receiving joy from doing so, how can we not feel happy with ourselves and our contributions to society?

Through specific points in astrology, called the Lunar Nodes of the Moon, we can understand ourselves from a Soul perspective and see the personality traits we came here to integrate.  Following the guidelines for these points, we can fulfill our purpose.  The North Node is the life purpose point, and the South Node is the karma point.  If you would like a refresher on these important placements in your chart, you can read more about them here.

There is also a book I recommend to clients called, “Astrology for the Soul” by Jan Spiller.  This book provides a wealth of information on the North Node for each of the 12 zodiac signs.  For example, you might have a North Node in Cancer and that would mean you are here to integrate more nurturing, empathic, and intuitive qualities.  What you decide to do with these newfound skills is completely up to you.

Evolutionary Astrology always honors your free will. Having a thorough description and outline of possibilities for your life purpose, however, gives your imagination new ideas to consider – most of which you may never have reflected upon before, because they are completely opposite to the behaviors that feel most natural to you. What feels most natural to you now is the South Node sign's character traits and behaviors.

The Lunar Nodes and Self-Actualization

The reason the Lunar Nodes are so important when it comes to self-actualization is because we all come here with certain skills and gifts from a previous lifetime.  The South Node shows us what these gifts are and how we can use them to assist us in our lives, however, if we only resort to our South Node skills, we will be cheating ourselves of the necessary growth required to evolve.

The North Node point is not intended to feel familiar, but it is intended to help you get aligned to your truest self, your highest potential, and your Soul’s ultimate evolution in this lifetime.  Thus, it becomes essential to familiarize yourself with these qualities and adopt them in your everyday behaviors if you want to grow spiritually.

Other Points of Significance

While the North Node is the first place of significance for becoming self-actualized from a Soul perspective, the Sun and the Moon are important considerations from a personality viewpoint.  The Sun represents your core identity and ego desires, while the Moon represents your emotional self and how you need to be loved and nurtured in order to feel emotionally secure.  Both placements therefore provide further clarification on your individual needs and wants.

To feel self-actualized means that we have found, and are living in alignment with, our true purpose (North Node).  It also involves us having a strong sense of identity (Sun) and feeling rooted and confident in who we are.  Then it requires our own personal happiness (Moon) while we are fulfilling our purpose and being who we came here to be.  The Moon's sign in you chart tells you how to obtain emotional security, feel safe, and be satisfied with your decisions - in your heart.  When we can recognize all these qualities and synthesize all these “parts” of ourselves, then we can then begin to live harmoniously and holistically with ourselves throughout our lives.
