To best understand the nature of Pisces, it's good to think of yourself when you first wake up in the morning. At this time your mind is still in the theta brainwave state; you are relaxed, open, and most receptive to intuitive information. Pisces, as a mutable water sign, has a dominant feeling nature when sensing outer stimuli. So, they "feel first" in other words. And because of their heightened feeling sense, their minds are often quieter, and more receptive to non-logical Divine insights.
One of the virtues of Pisces is compassion. This is partly because Pisces can easily feel what another is going through; they are highly empathic, and they want to help others. Where this can get them into trouble, however, is if they give to the wrong people (think of narcissists) and end up getting taken advantage of. Thus, it is very important for Pisces to develop strong emotional boundaries and learn how to protect their energy fields.
Coming back to what it feels like to embrace the Pisces energy, take a moment now and close your eyes. Take three full breaths in and out and do your best to quiet your mind. Notice the stillness and what the air feels like on your skin. Become present. As you sit silently in this state, focus on your heart center. Imagine with each breath you inhale you send air straight to your heart chakra. You are consciously feeding yourself love. You are allowing yourself to simply be. This is the most helpful exercise to connect to Pisces energy.
Pisces is often viewed as a devotional, spiritual sign that makes time for meditative practices. They are most comfortable with the idea of just relaxing and being in a state of listening. This listening state allows them to be receptive to their intuition and act on their creative ideas. Pisces can remind us all to embrace the stillness of the moment and open ourselves to a state of listening. It is here we can most easily drop into a meditative trance that detaches us from all thoughts and puts us at ease. It is here we approach enlightenment, or Satori, where complete oneness is felt and we can recognize ourselves as whole, perfect, and complete.
This idea of oneness, so paramount to the nature of Pisces, reminds us all that we are connected at our core. No matter our religion, sexual orientation, or social status, we are all made of the same “God stuff.” We recognize this truth most easily when we escape from the ego’s grip and courageously step out into the unknown—the unknown territory of our psyche, our inner world. Emotions become more easily accessible here and our hearts soften.
This is the space where we can access our inner Guru with less resistance and more grace.
It activates compassion, encourages forgiveness, and alleviates self-doubt. It's an addicting, intoxicating state, indeed. Thus, one must be cautious and guard against the temptation to escape here all the time as a defense mechanism against the outer world. Though at times this departure is needed for us all to restore our sanity and our sense of inner calm, we cannot use it as an escape to stop living either. The world needs our contributions and our presence.
As we engulf ourselves in the higher vibrations of Pisces energy, let us not forget to tend to our bodies. Eat well, rest well, and move the limbs. Pisces likes organic movements, not routine structures. Free-flowing movements involving flexibility and full range of motion are highly beneficial. Stretch like a cat, take long naps, and most certainly allow your body’s intuition to guide you.
Connect to your romantic nature, unleash your creative imagination, and bring something magical into fruition. Surrender to the great unknown; give yourself permission to trust. Learn to go with the flow. Pay attention to the messages in your dreams and journal about them. These are some helpful reminders to get you comfortably situated and positively aligned to this yin, mutable, emotionally intelligent zodiac sign.
